Frames Gaps and Mending

Because the MediaMend feature is the most unique, it is also the hardest to explain.   To explain the mending, I need to first explain about frames and gaps. 

Video Frames

A video is made of frames (individual photo snapshots) that are shown in rapid succession.   Nothing really moves, it is just a series of still photos (you knew that, didn’t you).

If these frames are shown fast enough, the video will look continuous – it will not look like a series of photographs.  What is fast enough?  Actually, this varies from person to person (it’s like asking how fast a person can run), but generally a rate of 20 – 30 is acceptable (film is 24 frames per second, European TV is 25, US TV is 30).

The diagram below shows a stylized set of frames (the white squares) numbered from F-0 to F-13.  They are placed on the timeline at equal spacing of time from T-0 to T-13.
