Frame Gaps and Mending. . . Frames Gaps
The diagram in Step1 showed the frames all present and in neat order. This is the normal situation in TV and movies. But unfortunately, in computer videos, there are often missing frames as shown in the diagram below.
In the diagram, Frames 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 and 11 are missing. How can a video lose frames? Here are some common ways: 1. Inexpensive video cameras and capture cards often cannot capture and store video frames fast enough. They do the best that they can, but often fall behind and must discard frames to catch up to the next incoming frame – this results in gaps. 2. For transmission of video over the Internet, frames are removed to make the video smaller 3. In addition to the intentional removal of frames, Internet transmission errors often result in damaged frames which are discarded by the receiving computer 4. Stretching the duration (play time) of a video (e.g. Slow-motion), when you change the frame rate, this creates gaps (The next Step tells more)
