With the components separated, SteadyHand can apply different ranges of allowable motion and different levels of correction to each component.   Steady weights the different observed movements and corrections, to create the most pleasing, “Ideal Camera Path.”

I’m not allowed to say more about the algorithm than that it uses advanced psycho-visual heuristics.  In plain English, it tries to make the movement look good and natural to the eye.

Although SteadyHand does a great job in the default settings, if you want to push an effect, you can adjust the weight used for each of the 4 components.  This adjustment is found in the “Custom Settings” of SteadyHand.   In Custom Settings, the correction control is set in milliseconds of video.  This indicates how long a view SteadyHand takes when considering motion.  A shorter-view (small numbers) will be more tolerant of motion and let it through.  This is good if you don’t want to remove some camera motion that you like (like a fast horizontal pan).   A longer-view will make slow movements smoother, and remove virtually all shake.
