The
great thing about SteadyHand demos is they are so simple to explain.
Bad on the left, good on the right. You’ll recognize many
of these as matching examples in our How it Works section.
Walk on a Path:
|
|
This is a great clip demonstrating the home-video
application of SteadyHand. Here, the cameraperson meanders down a
tree-lined path. Each step is clearly visible in the original video
on the left. The SteadyHand version removes the stepping motion,
creating a smooth video.

Real Estate Walk-through:
|
|
Everyone knows real
estate companies want to sell homes over the Internet, and video is a great
way to show off a home. Here we have a realtor filming a
home, and it is quite typical of a careful, but hand-held
walkthrough. Bouncing, camera rotation, rapid pans and zooms, you
name it…
Look at the
SteadyHand version on the right – the bounces are gone, there is no
noticeable rotation, and the pans and zooms would be the envy of a
professional photographer. SteadyHand seems to be the enabling
application for this industry.

Go-Cart Race:
|
|
Video is going mobile. If you think a hand-held or
walking shot is hard, try it from a moving vehicle. Here’s an
extreme example – an actual home-video shot from a
go-cart. Try to watch the original first; you probably won’t
even see the go-cart you are chasing.
On the right, the shake is removed by
SteadyHand. SteadyHand enables seeing this kind of detail in even the
most grueling circumstances.

Tiger Pacing:
|
|
Home video is notoriously difficult to shoot well; most
of us don’t appreciate the experts on the news until we try
ourselves. The panning of the camera to follow a pacing tiger is
woefully inadequate in the original. Note especially how the
cameraperson (it was me, Johnny) overshoots the tiger when it stops.
In the Steadied version, the bounce is gone and even
the overshoot is unnoticeable. Here, SteadyHand has turned a novice
into a pro with a few clicks of a mouse button…

Steady at Sea:
|
|
Perhaps the most unsteady spot on earth is a small
boat. This clip of a sailboat was shot from a dinghy at sea. The
video was steadied, but the edges were left raw so you can see how Steady
shifts and rotates the video to keep the target centered and level. This
video is not a side-by-side.
